Elle est mari\u00e9e au tr\u00e8s charmant docteur Pierre Serizy (<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jean_Sorel\">Jean Sorel<\/a>) qu&rsquo;elle aime \u00ab\u00a0au-del\u00e0 du plaisir\u00a0\u00bb. Elle ne parvient pas en effet \u00e0 trouver le plaisir aupr\u00e8s de lui, ce qui les frustre tous deux. Un ami du couple, que le jeune docteur appr\u00e9cie beaucoup plus que sa femme, Monsieur Henri Husson (<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michel_Piccoli\">Michel Piccoli<\/a>), en vient \u00e0 parler \u00e0 S\u00e9verine d&rsquo;un <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lupanar\">bordel<\/a> de luxe qu&rsquo;il fr\u00e9quentait dans le pass\u00e9 et, accessoirement, lui avoue son d\u00e9sir pour elle.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>S\u00e9verine, \u00e0 la personnalit\u00e9 bris\u00e9e, et qui est, selon toute apparence, insatisfaite sexuellement, finit par se rendre dans le mauvais lieu que lui a signal\u00e9 Husson, entre en contact avec la patronne de l&rsquo;endroit, Madame Ana\u00efs (<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Genevi%C3%A8ve_Page\">Genevi\u00e8ve Page<\/a>), qui pense qu&rsquo;elle a des probl\u00e8mes d&rsquo;argent, et commence \u00e0 y travailler secr\u00e8tement, \u00e9tant entendu qu&rsquo;elle ne s&rsquo;y prostituera que certains apr\u00e8s-midi de 14 \u00e0 17\u00a0heures (d&rsquo;o\u00f9 le surnom qu&rsquo;on lui donne\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Belle de jour\u00a0\u00bb). Sans jugement aucun, il accompagne cette femme, cette h\u00e9ro\u00efne <em>bovarienne<\/em>, qui ne peut vivre dans un milieu social qu&rsquo;elle trouve \u00e9touffant. Il ne donne pas plus de r\u00e9ponses sur les motivations de la belle \u00e0 \u00eatre viol\u00e9e, brutalis\u00e9e.
