En plus des deux personnages principaux, plusieurs personnages du film s&rsquo;inspirent de personnages r\u00e9els. Le personnage d&rsquo;Alain Charnier est bas\u00e9 sur <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Jean_Jehan&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Jean Jehan<\/a>, qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 arr\u00eat\u00e9 \u00e0 <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paris\">Paris<\/a> pour <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trafic_de_stup%C3%A9fiants\">trafic de stup\u00e9fiants<\/a>. Malgr\u00e9 cela, il ne sera jamais extrad\u00e9 vers les <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%C3%89tats-Unis\">\u00c9tats-Unis<\/a>, la <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/France\">France<\/a> n&rsquo;extradant pas ses citoyens. Le r\u00e9alisateur explique le laxisme suppos\u00e9 de la police fran\u00e7aise par le fait qu&rsquo;il aurait effectu\u00e9 son service militaire sous les ordres de <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charles_de_Gaulle\">Charles de Gaulle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p><em>French Connection<\/em> s&rsquo;attache \u00e0 d\u00e9crire le d\u00e9roulement de l&rsquo;enqu\u00eate avec la plus grande authenticit\u00e9 possible. C&rsquo;est cette recherche de r\u00e9alisme qui fait l&rsquo;originalit\u00e9 du film et son aspect <em>documentaire<\/em>. De nombreuses sc\u00e8nes sont tourn\u00e9es cam\u00e9ra \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9paule, dans des d\u00e9cors v\u00e9ritables et \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re naturelle. Le tournage de <em>French Connection<\/em> se d\u00e9roule du <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/30_novembre\">30<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Novembre_1970\">novembre<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1970_au_cin%C3%A9ma\">1970<\/a> \u00e0 <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mars_(mois)\">mars<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1971_au_cin%C3%A9ma\">1971<\/a> \u00e0 <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_York\">New York<\/a>, \u00e0 <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marseille\">Marseille<\/a>, \u00e0 <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cassis_(Bouches-du-Rh%C3%B4ne)\">Cassis<\/a> et \u00e0 <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Washington_(district_de_Columbia)\">Washington<\/a>. Le r\u00e9alisme est le r\u00e9sultat direct de l&rsquo;influence du film <em><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Z_(film,_1969)\">Z<\/a><\/em> de <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Costa-Gavras\">Costa-Gavras<\/a>. De plus, ce fut le premier film \u00e0 montrer le <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/World_Trade_Center\">World Trade Center<\/a>, la tour nord est termin\u00e9e et la tour sud est partiellement r\u00e9alis\u00e9e. Dans celle-ci, Popeye r\u00e9quisitionne la voiture d&rsquo;un civil (une <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pontiac_LeMans\">Pontiac LeMans<\/a> de 1971) puis part \u00e0 la poursuite finale qui met aux prises le h\u00e9ros au trafiquant de drogue dans le m\u00e9tro a\u00e9rien de la <em>BMT West End Line<\/em> de <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_York\">New York<\/a>. La sc\u00e8ne est film\u00e9e dans Bensonhurst, \u00e0 <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brooklyn\">Brooklyn<\/a>, s&rsquo;\u00e9tendant sous la ligne <em>BMT West End Line<\/em> (actuellement le train D, puis le train B).
